Visiting Nauvoo

A little over a week ago my mom and my abuelito (grandpa) came out to St. Louis to see us! We were so busy the 5 days they were here that I hit the hay and slept almost 12 hours after they left. We visited the fountains in Tower Grove Park, saw the St. Louis Arch, went to Missouri Botanical Gardens and...went on a little road trip to Nauvoo IL. This picture was taken outside of Carthage Jail. Tyler and I went to Nauvoo when we first moved here and were able to visit the beautiful temple and tour the homes of the early Saints, but we didn't make it to Carthage. It was emotional to be at the place where the prophet Joseph Smith was martyred. I felt so grateful for his dedication to restore the Church of Jesus Christ and was glad to have shared that experience with my Abuelito and my mom.

The Circus is in and Stitches are out!

We took Ashton to Circus Flora on Wednesday. It was the “kid” showing so it was only an hour long. I’m not sure what Ashton liked most….seeing all the other kids, watching the fun acrobatics, or jamming his eager little hand into the popcorn box to fill his mouth in the Black family fashion. Overall we had a great time.

And while we are enjoying Ashton’s newly acquired skills (hearing him slowly pronounce “uh-ohhh” and giving high fives) we were excited for Ashton to get his stitches out this afternoon. Fortunately his sweet little head seems to be healing well after his last surgery despite his fall out of his crib and then down the stairs.

This week has kept me busy with projects like, organizing the 5k race, re-organizing the house to make way for the new baby and our summertime visitors, and taking Ashton out to the parks, fountains, and zoo. Tyler has been busy getting ready for his final shelf exam of his 3rd year of medical school and helping out around the house. I couldn't survive without him!

Day at the Dentist

A little over a month ago Ashton had a little face plant as he was crawling around. He was screaming and I was thinking "...boy do you need a nap". I picked him up and started to comfort him. I handed him his lovey and after crying into it for a moment he pulled it away and I noticed a little blood on it. I gave his mouth a quick inspection and noticed that the blood was coming from his upper gums near his two big otter teeth and not his lip. Needless to say this minor trauma restulted in some graying in those sweet baby pearls so I scheduled a trip to the dentist. We were meet with good fortune when the dentist told us that his teeth were begining to heel on his own and would be whitening up! I left happy and so did Ashton toting along his new Whiney the Pooh toothbrush.
